Friday 26 August 2016: Couriers working for UberEATS gathered at the app-based company’s offices in Black Swan Yard SE1 for what proved to be a fiery and provocative protest against poverty wages.
The Couriers took a stand against the recent slashes to the rates they are paid by UberEATS, which have resulted in many riders’ earnings averaging below the national minimum wage.
They are now organised and committed to continuing protest actions against UberEATS until their demands for the London Living Wage are met. This includes further loud and disruptive protests at Uber’s offices as well as restaurants that partner with UberEATS, awareness-raising social media attacks, working with mainstream media contacts through the IWGB to apply public pressure, and more.
Support from the UVW Union and media contacts who were present was much appreciated. We’ll see you again soon at the next protest!
